Here’s just a quick thought dump of what I’ve recently been working on…
Server Migrations
I’ve been working on doing some server migrations for my websites over the past few days. Most of my stuff has been hosted on Vercel’s free tier. Now, Vercel always seemed a bit shady to me and there’s good reason why people avoid it but it was mainly a convenience thing for me. I’m familiar with managing my own backends for websites but going serverless makes things easier for sure. Though Vercel’s recent announcement that they’ll be stealing your code to train AI slop was kinda the push I needed to finally start getting away from them.
I’m thinking of eventually moving most of my stuff to running on my own VPS. I’ve already been doing some work towards setting that up, I’ve found this nice free self-host management called Coolify which brings a workflow that’s similar to serverless hosting but you still manage your own servers. Currently, I have some API stuff running on my VPS through Coolify, but my websites haven’t moved over yet as I’ve run into some issues here and there. Particularly, I’m having trouble getting the last modified timestamp (based on Git edits) to display properly when hosting through that. For now, I’ve moved notes.yernemm.xyz to Cloudflare but my main yernemm.xyz is still on Vercel. I’ll get around to moving that soon.
Fun fact, there are 3 separate instances of the notes page live right now. I haven’t removed the old Vercel one yet, then there’s the Cloudflare instance which is the live one, and the experimental one running through Coolify on my VPS.
Project Plans
AT Homepage
I have some plans for a web project. Without going into too much detail, I want to build an AT-Proto powered Appview page. Though it won’t necessarily serve as a social media, but rather as your browser’s home page. Blento and AetherOS are some nice inspirations. I essentially want a page I can set as my default home page in my browser which has a search bar, configurable bookmarks links, and a bunch of stuff from around the ATmosphere based on what data you have on your account. And have it all be configurable through your AT account. I used to use WebOasis as my home page so that’s kinda the vibe I’m going for, but with more AT stuff.
Hytale Modding
I also need to get back to Hytale. I’ve been meaning to learn Java modding for that. I had plans to make a custom crafting system for Yer’s Labels but I’ve still got to learn all the Java stuff for it. I got a basic boilerplate Java mod buuut I lost motivation for continuing. I want to get back to it some day though…
Other stuff I’ve been up to
I’ve been generally having a lot of fun looking into projects made on AT Proto, but I have a whole page about ATProto Stuff so no need to talk about it here much.
I’ve been watching through Frieren Season 2 every Friday. Sad to see Frieren Fridays are over for this year. I liked this season though, maybe wasn’t as focused as the first one but it had a nice variety of adventures and I liked that one fight which took them like 3 episodes to show. Until next year…
This season has many good screenshot opportunities.
Still slowly playing through Crimson Desert. I have a thing where any game I play, no matter how much I like it, I’ll usually get bored of it in a week or two. I need to take breaks to not get burned out on games sometimes. I might take a break from it for now and focus on other stuff so I can get back to it with a fresh mind.
This game is secretly a cat-catching simulator.
I’ve also been hopping on VRChat more, fun times. I kinda wanna play more VR games in general but there hasn’t been anything that would interest me in a while.
I guess that’s it for this quick update, I don’t write these too often but it’s nice to get some thoughts down in longer-form from time to time.
