Hello, friend.
Been a while. Haven’t been much in the mood to write for some time, as well as just being busy in general. I feel like that’s a repeating theme for my recent posts here. I suppose I had that initial momentum of writing nearly every day for a while and just got bored of it, as usually happens with most of my interests. It’s still nice to write though, perhaps it’s better to leave larger gaps. More to think about in between them.
Game Dev Thoughts
I have technically registered for Juniper Game Jam but I might not end up participating. I am just busy for the most part these days. The theme is interesting, makes me want to make some kind of casino type game. I could still make something simple, although I am definitely planning on doing something for GMTK jam this year. It’s been tradition for me to work on it every year. Last year, it was around the same time I started my current job so I was quite busy at the time and wasn’t able to contribute much unfortunately. This time though, I already have that time booked off so I should be able to join in.
I do want to work on a game again, maybe this time a longer project. My biggest problem is just not having a good idea that I am willing to commit to long-term. And I’m also just not great at long-term projects, I usually get bored. Maybe one day though, hopefully.
update: I kinda started writing this post a week ago, still writing it now as I haven’t got around to finishing it. I didn’t end up participating in the Juniper Game Jam. To be honest, I didn’t even really think about it throughout the entire runtime, just too busy with other things unfortunately. But it be like that sometimes. I still plan on joining the GMTK jam at least, I think that will be quite nice.
Linux Thoughts
Been playing around with Linux again. I do want to main Linux for a bit on my main PC some time, similar like with Switching to Linux. I got a new laptop recently and the first thing I did was wiped the drive and installed Linux. The base Windows install was already filled with ads and bloat, horrible.
At the moment, I’m trying out Cachy OS with KDE Plasma. I was thinking of going with Cachy + Hyprland but Plasma is still my comfortable go-to. I might install Hyprland alongside still, I’ll have to see. I want to learn to use it some day, but I don’t like some parts of it. For instance, not being able to really minimise tiles but instead just having to move them somewhere just doesn’t feel right to me.
I was thinking of trying Omarchy too, but after finding out the creator of it is kinda not a great person, that put me off of it a bit. Might still give it a go some day, but I may as well just do my own Hyprland install and customise that.
Media Thoughts
Been in the process of rewatching Mr Robot again. Good show, probably one of my favourites.
Also, Witch Hat Atelier ended recently. It was a pretty good anime. A second season is apparently planned, I’m curious how it continues.
I’ve also been watching through the John Wick films. Got up to the third one with some watch parties, I need to catch up with the fourth though. They’re nice, just fun silly action movies.
VRC Thoughts
PJKT is on again, nice. I want to explore it a bit more. Looks like they had some issues with the booths to start with. With most pjkt communities I come across, I don’t really tend to stick around. Unfortunately, a lot of them don’t work well around my timezone. Would be nice if there were something like pjkt, but more split around which type of timezone the groups accommodate.
